Being in this “foodie world” has really opened some doors for me, and I couldn’t be more excited and welcoming of these cool opportunities.
I was invited to an event promoting a cookbook called “The Family Table”, not really knowing what I was getting my self into I was like I would love to be apart of a cookbook tasting! (I LOOVE cookbooks btw!) The night of the event I looked at the flyer again for the address and that is when I realized it was the Smollett family’s cookbook and Chef Jake Smollett was coming to promote the book. Of course I immediately got super excited and honored! (I mean the Smollett family is everything and if you don’t know who they are we can’t be friends! lol)
So lets get into the most important thing of the night…the food!
Brown Butter Lamb Chops
Crab Fried Rice (A Favorite!)
Spicy Smoked Gouda Twice Baked Potatoes
Pork Tenderloin w/ Apricot dipping sauce (The apricot sauce paired so well with the way the meat was seasoned!)
And then there was dessert…Drunken Grilled Peach w/Vanilla and Lemon Mascarpone (My GAWWWD!)
The man of the hour Chef Jake Smollett
All of these amazing recipes plus much more are in the Family Table Cookbook!
I also want to recognize the organization this event benefitted which is the “Recipe for Success Foundation”. Recipe for Success’s Mission Statement states it is “dedicated to combating childhood obesity by changing the way our children understand, appreciate and eat their food, and by educating and mobilizing the community to provide healthier diets for children”.
The one thing that stuck out to me about this foundation is the farm they built is in the heart of the Sunnyside community called “Hope Farms”. This farm provides fresh fruits and vegetables to the community of Sunnyside, and they also help provide jobs and internships to the neighborhood youth. Veterans are also welcomed as well as all Houstonians to learn about gardening and cooking. Amazing!
